MARGAO: Margao police have registered a cheating case against one Manoj Kumar from New Delhi who allegedly cheated about 40 youth from South Goa by promising jobs abroad. Police said that based on the complaint lodged by youth, an offence under Section 420 of IPC has been registered. However, Kumar is not arrested.
According to a complaint lodged at the police station, the youth had made payment in cash to Kumar for providing them jobs abroad some months back but he did not keep his word nor did he return back the money.
On Wednesday, the youth had gathered at the Margao police station. According to police sources, Kumar had opened an office in Margao and promised youth of jobs outside India with a better salary.
Sources said that some youth from Salcete and its nearby areas have paid Rs 20,000 each to get job abroad.
Sources also revealed that some days back some youth met Kumar who assured to return back the money. It is learnt that he had issued cheques to them which however got bounced. Police said that the accused resides in Raia and his Margao office is closed however investigation is in progress. NT
