14 projects are at various stages of completion: govt

The government has stated that a project taken up under the Smart City Mission/ AMRUT namely ‘Implementation of smart radios wireless network with mast tower for Panaji’ has benefitted the Corporation of the City of Panaji.

The government has also maintained that similarly other projects under these central government schemes such as rejuvenation and redevelopment of internal lanes of Mala, rejuvenation of cluster of lanes/ Altinho steps, refurbishment of existing pedestrian bridge linking central library and Rua de Ourem Creek, creek development of walkway along the central library side of the creek, beautification of beachfront promenade Miramar, and beautification and up-gradation of Azad Maidan Square, have all benefitted citizens staying around the said project sites.

The information was given in the State Legislative Assembly by the Minister for Urban Development, Milind Naik, in a written reply, during the ongoing monsoon session of the House.

The written information further stated that altogether 14 projects under Smart City Mission/ AMRUT are at various stages of completion.

“The project namely ‘Selection of master system integrator for Goa intelligent city management system’, for Panaji is 10 per cent complete, while smart conversion of overhead to underground electrical network for, Panaji and Ribander is 21 per cent complete,” it stated, adding that the beautification of beach front promenade at Miramar is only 7 per cent complete.

The written reply also informed that the government has not taken any decision yet, as regard continuation of service of the present chief executive officer of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL), which is a special purpose vehicle for Smart City Mission-Panaji.

“The consolidated monthly salary of the IPSCDL CEO is Rs 2,05,400,” it added, pointing out that presently, 15 staff members are in the service of the IPSCDL, while 27 of the employees have already resigned, from May 2017 to June 2019.

The Minister further informed the House that as per the Smart City guidelines, the Smart City Citizen Advisory Forum has been constituted to act as an advisory and ideas generating pool for the Corporation of the City of Panaji, so as to take informed decisions of cognisance, which have direct impact on the lives of the citizens of Panaji.

The forum includes Mayor and Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, besides others including citizens.
