VASCO: Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday gave a power point presentation on the proposed beautification-cum-upgradation of Vaddem Lake at Mormugao Municipal Council hall. The project is estimated to cost Rs 12 crore.
The project will be executed by Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and work is likely to start by the end of August. Mangesh Prabhugaonkar has been appointed as the consultant for the project. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Bhavana Bhosle, Mormugao Planning and Development Authority chairman Krishna Salkar besides several other councillors were present at the presentation.
The project includes a recreational centre, installation of benches, pedestrian-friendly track suitable for walks, floating fountains with illuminations, boating facilities, strengthening of parapet, major illumination work towards the four corners of the lake, improving the quality of lake water for better growth of aquatic life, construction of raft for immersion of Lord Ganesh idols and other initiatives to maintain an environment-friendly atmosphere, better connectivity between the lake and the sea for smooth flow of water throughout the day and planting of Bougainvillea trees towards the road side.
Speaking on the importance of the project, Godinho claimed that the lake will attract more tourists and benefit the twin constituencies of Dabolim and Vasco. “Necessary formalities related to the project have been completed and the Church authorities have given their permission to the beautification and upgradation of Vaddem lake,” Godinho added.
“The Vaddem lake will be one of the foremost projects that will attract more tourists mainly those who land at the airport,” Godinho said adding efforts will be made to provide tourist-centric facilities that would also give employment to youth. MMC chairperson Bhavana Bhosle said that the municipality will adopt a resolution for granting permission to the project at a special meeting shortly.
