MAPUSA: Mapusa police arrested a Nepal native, who was working as a labourer, for allegedly stabbing one of his roommates and causing him serious injuries.
The police have booked the alleged accused on charges of attempting to commit murder.
The police said that Govinda Narah (18), a native of Assam, who is currently residing at Damadem, Thivim has lodged a complaint stating that Ashok Bishwakarma, a native of Nepal, allegedly attempted to commit murder of his relative Ramesh Narah by stabbing him with a knife in his chest, thereby causing him serious injuries.
Both the accused and the victim are migrants working as labourers in Mapusa and were residing in a rented room along with other labourers at Damadem. On Monday night, it was the turn of Bishwakarma to cook food. However, when Ramesh returned to the room during the night at around 9.30 and questioned him as to whether he has cooked the food, he got angry and slapped the victim and got into agreements. Later, in a fit of anger the alleged accused attacked him with a knife and again tried to attack him, however, other roommates overpowered him and rushed the victim to hospital, the police said.
The police have registered an offence under section 307 of IPC and arrested Bishwakarma. PSI Yogendra Garodi is investigating the case. NT
